Weight benches are great fun and incredibly convenient to have at home. There is an enormous range of features that can come with a simple little bench – today we look at some of the handiest and most exotic weight bench features available.

Olympic weight capacity

Many people that aren’t even considering entering the Olympics opt for Olympic capacity weight benches. They are more expensive that standard weight benches, but if you tend to be hard on your equipment, with the occasional jarring drop, Olympic benches are much better constructed.

Attachments

You can get attachments to allow you to do lat pull downs, pectoral exercises and squats with your weight bench. This sounds like overkill to some – but there’s no point in being able to train part of your body at home, and having to go to the gym for the rest.

Spherical/cuboid frames

There is no defined strength advantage in these shapes, but they do look pretty cool.

Easy disassembly

There are various folds and attachments that can be made in a weight bench to allow it to pack up for easy storage. If you won’t be leaving your assembled, this is a great option.

Warranty/extended warranty

Make sure you know what needs to be done to activate the warranty from your end, and who you deal with if your weight bench has any problems.
